Little Rhody, the Ocean State or Rhode Island – by any name the state defines New England charm. Dominated by dramatic coastlines, Rhode Island is home to Newport, the sailing capital of the world, Providence, the State Capital and site of Brown University, and a variety of charming towns.

Enjoy a visit to The Breakers for a look back into the Gilded Age, stop by a lighthouse for some fresh ocean air, and be sure to enjoy fresh seafood – Rhode Island is well known for its clambakes, Snail Salad and johnny cakes.

Rhode Island is only 48 miles long and 37 miles wide, making it easy to visit the Ocean State and see it all. Start in West Greenwich, conveniently located along Interstate 95. The area is ideal in spring and summer. With nearly 50% of the land preserved as open space, destinations including Arcadia State Park, Tillinghast Preserve and Big River Management Area, offering outdoor adventures for all. Like fishing, kayaking or canoeing? Try Tillinghast Pond Management Area with calm and clear waters for family recreation. For outstanding mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding trails, check out Arcadia Management Area, Rhode Island’s largest recreation area.

Centrally located off Interstate 95 and Interstate 295, Warwick is home to TF Green Airport, Rhode Island’s largest commuter airport. Getting to Warwick is convenient any way you choose. No worries if you need something, Route 2 is filled with shopping, leading to Warwick’s moniker “The Retail Capital of Rhode Island”.

Summer in Warwick means Gaspee Days festivities. Honoring the historic First Blow for Freedom, Warwick is home to Historic Pawtuxet Village, where summer kicks off at Memorial Day Weekend's Gaspee Days Arts and Crafts Festival. Gaspee Day’s events run through summer – check the schedule when you are in the Warwick area.

The beautiful and historic city of Newport, set on Aquidneck Island, is at its best in summer. Take a drive along Ocean Drive, walk the 3.5 mile Cliff Walk, or sail Newport Harbor - anyway you prefer, the sights are amazing. A mansion tour is a must – get an all-day trolley ticket and see them at your leisure. Downtown Newport is filled with well preserved and maintained colonial buildings, be sure to take a walk around downtown and the harbor.

Newport kicks off summer 2012 with the 31st Annual Great Chowder Cook-Off, June 2nd. New England is the place for chowder and historic downtown Newport adds charm to the tasting. Take your pick of Clam, Seafood or your favorite chef’s creation. Attendees all win, but vote for your favorite chowder, enjoy entertainment, shopping and food demonstrations throughout the day.

The 2012 Paw Sox season kicks off April 5th, followed by 75 home games through Labor Day Weekend. Gather family and friends for summer baseball in Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium. While you’re at a Pawtucket Red Sox game, be sure to see the Murals at McCoy, by Carol Tayo Heuser. Stop by on May 12th for the 2012 Pawsox Motorcycle – Classic Car Show and Food Drive. Classic owners, be sure to enter the show and join the fun. With food, drink and live music and an evening baseball game, this is a full day of activities. Celebrate the fourth of July at McCoy Stadium featuring Furthur in concert on Thursday July 5th. Furthur begins their 2012 summer tour at Pawtucket’s McCoy Stadium.
